San Diego: Immigrants Rescued From Storm Drain Near Mexico

12.23.2019 | 1:00 PM | SAN DIEGO – A group of five immigrants attempting to enter the United States illegally were rescued after becoming trapped in a storm drain, Monday evening.

Authorities responded to reports of a group that had entered a storm drain in Mexico and became stuck while crossing into the United States near the Tijuana River Valley, east of San Ysidro, around 1:00 PM.

Units arriving on scene learned the group of three men and two women had traveled approximately one-quarter mile before being stuck near the end of the tunnel.

Firefighter paramedics rescued the group from the storm drain and provided medical care on scene.

All members of the group suffered from symptoms of hypothermia and were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
