San Diego: Immigrants Rescued After Becoming Stuck Inside Tunnel While Crossing Border Illegally

11.28.2019 | 10:42 PM | SAN DIEGO – A group of approximately 16 illegal immigrants had to be rescued after becoming stuck while attempting to enter the United States through a tunnel, late Thursday night.

Authorities responded to reports from a border patrol agent who saw a group of approximately 16 immigrants enter the tunnel from Tijuana, Mexico that had become stuck amid heavy rains.

Firefighters and lifeguards responded to the scene and worked to free approximately 13 men from the tunnel. Seven of the immigrants were transported to area hospitals for hypothermia.

Several hours later around 1:00 AM on Friday morning, officials heard what sounded like additional victims screaming.

Crews re-responded and discovered three more victims and quickly freed them. The two males and one female were transported to area hospitals for hypothermia.

An investigation is ongoing.
