San Diego: Gas Station Victimized By Bizarre Theft Attempt
12.09.2018 | 12:00 AM | SAN DIEGO – Police were investigating after a caller tried to defraud a gas station clerk by convincing her to break into the station’s safe, Saturday afternoon.
Police responded to a reported theft attempt after a gas station manager learned his employee had used a pickax, grinder, and saw, to attempt breaking into the safe.
Authorities learned that the employee had been contacted by a man on the telephone who posed as a district manager of the gas station. The man instructed the employee to a locked office in the gas station where numerous tools were cached.
The employee used these tools to break into the safe to obtain what the caller said was an important yellow envelope.
Police are investigating the case but believe the store employee was legitimately duped into believing the caller was a district manager.
