San Diego: Car Thief Shot With Pepper Balls And Bean Bags After Stand-Off – Caught On Camera

03.24.2019 | 12:20 PM | SAN DIEGO – A car thief was under arrest after being shot with pepper balls and bean bag rounds culminating a stand-off, Sunday afternoon.

Officers on routine patrol conducted a records check on a blue Saturn sedan that returned as stolen.

Units followed the suspect before initiated a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Judith Avenue around 12:20 PM.

The driver of the vehicle was visibly nervous and refused to comply when ordered out of the vehicle.

After short stand-off officers utilized pepper ball rounds to encourage the suspect to exit the vehicle. The suspect did exit, but attempted to walk away from officers at which point he was shot with a bean bag round.

The bean bag round forced the suspect to the ground and he was taken into custody without incident.

Firefighter paramedics responded to the scene and transported the suspect to an area hospital for medical clearance.

Inside the vehicle officers located a large German Shepard dog. The dog was uninjured and appeared in good spirit.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation as is standard protocol for use of force incidents.
