San Bernardino: Pursuit Suspect Critically Wounded After Crash, Deputy-Involved Shooting
12.16.2019 | 12:30 AM | SAN BERNARDINO – A suspect who fled from deputies and later crashed was critically wounded after being struck by gunfire during a deputy-involved shooting, early Monday morning.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s attempted to stop a grey pickup truck headed northbound on the I-215 Freeway near Devore Road around 12:30 AM.
The suspect failed to yield to deputies and exited the freeway at Devore Road before continuing to flee on side streets.
The pursuit came to an end when the suspect crashed near a Mobil Gas Station in the 3900 block of University Parkway.
For reasons that remain unclear a deputy-involved shooting occurred and the suspect was struck by gunfire.
Firefighter paramedics responded to the scene and performed live-saving measures including CPR before transporting the male suspect to an area hospital in critical condition.
No deputies were injured in the shooting and no suspect weapon was recovered.
Authorities did not immediately indicate the reason for the initial traffic stop, how many deputies opened fire, or what prompted the shooting.
