San Bernardino: Little Mountain Fire Burns Burns Through Homes

10.21.2019 | 4:52 PM | SAN BERNARDINO – A roughly 17 acre brush fire dubbed the “Little Mountain Fire” burned at least nine homes, Monday evening.

Authorities responded to reports of a brush fire burning near the intersection of West 39th and Severance streets around 4:52 PM.

Units arriving on scene located a wind-driven brush fire burning in difficult topography and requested additional resources including water dropping helicopters.

Firefighters worked to defend nearby homes but the fast-moving flames spread to at least nine residences during the initial firefight.

At least six people including two firefighters and four civilians were hospitalized with injuries related to the fire. Two of the civilian victims were reportedly pulled from their home by first responders.

Downed power lines, heavy winds, and difficult terrain all hampered efforts to battle the blaze but crews still managed to contain at least 80% of the flames by Tuesday morning. Initial estimates indicate the fire burned approximately 17 acres.

Over 1,000 customers were without power at some point during the blaze and a temporary shelter was established by local officials at the Cajon High School located at 1200 West Hill Drive.
