Salinas: Suspect Trapped After Wrong-Way Pursuit Crash

11.19.2018 | 3:28 PM | SALINAS – A man fleeing police had to be extricated from his vehicle after a wrong-way crash, Monday afternoon.

Police officers initiated pursuit of a silver GMC van for unknown reasons around 3:30 PM.

During the pursuit the driver of the van made numerous risky maneuvers. While traveling wrong-way near the intersection of East Market Street and Peach Drive the suspect collided with a pick-up truck.

The force of the crash pushed the pickup truck backwards into a Honda sedan and trapped the suspect.

Firefighters used the jaws of life and other power tools to extricate the suspect who was described as having serious injuries.

At least three other patients were also transported however their condition was not immediately known.

Officers suspect alcohol played a role in the crash.
