Roe v Wade Protest Declared Unlawful, Tear Gas Deployed | Phoenix

06.24.2022 | 8:30 PM | PHOENIX – Massive crowd protesting the Roe vs Wade decision became unruly outside the AZ Capitol Building around 8:30. Protesters started banging on the doors and windows of the legislator building. DPS quickly declared the assembly unlawful and deployed a large crowd control unit. Tear gas was first fired into the crowd from elevated positions inside the Capitol. Hundreds scattered eastbound through the memorial lawn. Officers in riot gear moved in a line eastbound through the lawn firing tear gas canisters dispersing protesters. A palm tree directly in front of the Capitol building was seen burning, cause of the fire is unknown. Fire crews escorted by police approached from the south and quickly extinguished the fire. Protesters were seen spray painting and vandalizing various areas of the capitol grounds including the fallen officer memorial. DPS has yet to confirm whether any arrests or injuries have been reported. The grounds have no been cleared of all protesters and declared secure.
