Riverside: Crews Rescue Numerous Victims Trapped In Riverbed Amid Heavy Rains
01.17.2019 | 11:30 AM | RIVERSIDE – Over 30 people had to be rescued from the Santa Ana Riverbed after heavy rains caused it to flood, Thursday morning.
Authorities responded to calls advising of transients in the Santa Ana Riverbed near the Market Street bridge who may need assistance evacuating around 11:30 AM.
Crews arriving on scene located a number of victims in the riverbed with waters rising as a result of torrential rains.
Numerous resources including swift water teams and a helicopter responded to the scene to assist rescue efforts.
In total over 30 people were rescued from the riverbed, including 13 who were extricated via helicopter.
At least one victim was transported to an area hospital for unspecified injuries.
