FATAL CRASH ON WESTBOUND STATE ROUTE 91 WEST OF CRIDGE STREET

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigators today announced they have identified the juvenile driver believed responsible for a fatal crash that occurred on westbound State Route 91, west of Cridge Street. On July 25, 2023, at approximately 5:27 P.M, CHP Riverside units responded to a call of a crash involving three vehicles on westbound State Route 91, west of Cridge Street. Preliminary investigation revealed, the driver of a 2010 Acura TSX, was traveling within the carpool lane as the rider of a 2020 Kawasaki Ninja approached from behind. The Kawasaki began to split lanes as the Acura made an abrupt lane change to the right. The Acura struck the left side of the Kawasaki and ejected the rider into lanes. The rider continued into the path of a semi-truck and was struck. The rider succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on-scene by emergency personnel. The Acura fled the scene and continued westbound on State Route 91. Through investigative means, CHP investigators obtained the license plate of the Acura TSX. This information was broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies. On July 26, Hemet Police Department officers subsequently located the Acura TSX while conducting an enforcement stop. CHP investigators responded and took the Acura TSX for evidence. The driver of the Acura was questioned which led to the identity of the driver at the time of the crash. Officer Renteria is the investigating Officer.
