Riverside: BNSF Intermodal Catches Fire
11.19.2020 | 12:45 PM | RIVERSIDE – Riverside Fire Department and BNSF responded to a call of a train on the tracks with a wheel on fire.
When RFD arrived they found a BNSF train stopped on the tracks with a motor that had burned out and caused a small fire underneath the 3rd car of the train.
RFD quickly extinguished the fire but the train tracks had to be immediately shut down.
The tracks were shut down for around 30 minutes but had to remain in a slow status while BNSF investigated the fire.
The cause of the fire was from a malfunctioning motor.
It is unclear how this will affect the daily traffic, but BNSF crews remain on scene with the train shutdown for a undetermined amount of time.
The tracks are shared between multiple agencies including Metro which is used as a large transportation hub for those who travel between riverside and and Los Angeles for work.
At least one track remains open but is affected by the shutdown.
No more information is available at this time.
