Rialto: Man Rescued After Falling Into Shaft

01.17.2019 | 11:30 PM | RIALTO – Firefighters rescued a man who fell down drainage ditch maintenance shaft, Thursday night.

Authorities responded to calls reported a man who was stuck in a ditch behind Hometown Buffet near the intersection of East Valley Boulevard and South Riverside Avenue around 11:30 PM.

Units arriving on scene found a man who had fallen about 20-feet down a maintenance access shaft for a drainage ditch.

Crews utilized a stokes basket and rope system to hoist the man out of the shaft within an hour.

The man was treated on scene by firefighter paramedics before being transported to an area hospital.

The circumstances surrounding the man’s fall into the shaft were not immediately available.
