Retired Deputy Shoots Man | Santa Clarita

01.11.2021 | 2:37 PM | SANTA CLARITA – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau Detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a male Hispanic adult. The incident occurred on the 15900 block of Warm Springs Drive in Santa Clarita, on Monday, January 11, 2021 at approximately 2:20 pm. Deputies from the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station responded to a call regarding a traffic incident at the location. Shortly after, the call was updated to shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a red Toyota Tacoma truck had collided with a security gate and the driver (suspect), using his vehicle, forced his way into a gated community. The pickup truck continued into the residential community and stopped in front of a residence on the 15900 block of Warm Springs Drive. Shortly after, two individuals approached the vehicle to contact the suspect, who was still seated in the driver’s seat of the pickup truck. During the contact, the suspect produced a handgun. One of the individuals, a retired Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy, also produced a handgun, and a shooting occurred. The suspect was struck twice in the upper torso. Shortly thereafter, Santa Clarita deputies arrived and took the suspect into custody. He was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was listed in critical condition. A handgun was recovered at the scene, which is believed to belong to the suspect.
