Reports of Burning Tanks at Houston Refinery

At approximately 8:00pm on March 4th, 2026, emergency crews responded to reports of burning tanks in the 1500 block of Sheldon Road at the Petromax Refining Company in Houston.

According to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, multiple calls were received regarding tanks burning at the large refinery facility. Upon arrival, a strong chemical odor was reported in the air.

Responding agencies included Channelview Fire Department, the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, pollution control officials, and local law enforcement. Water could be seen being applied to parts of the facility.

Authorities continued to monitor the situation and investigate the cause of the incident.
