RCC Goes Under Lockdown For Man With Knife

DETAILS:

1. On April 18th, 2023, at about 8:00 AM, RCC Police received reports of a man with a knife on campus.
2. Officers attempted to make contact with the individual but the suspect fled on foot into a drainage ditch and into a tunnel system.
3. A campus-wide lockdown was initiated to protect students and staff.
4. The suspect refused to comply with orders and stayed barricaded in the dark tunnel.
5. After hours of negotiations and the use of a robot, the suspect attempted to flee through the tunnel and eventually made his way out onto a street through a manhole cover and was taken into custody without further issues.
