Ramona: Plane Crash Lands Into Field, Catches Fire
11.10.2018 | 7:53 AM | RAMONA – A small fixed-wing airplane caught fire after a crash landing near the Ramona Airport, Saturday morning.
Firefighters responded around 7:50 AM to the reported plane crash just west of the Ramona Airport near the intersection of Rangeland and Highland Valley roads.
Crews arriving on scene found the aircraft in a field fully engulfed in flames and began efforts to attack the blaze.
Within 10 minutes firefighters achieved knockdown the fire, preventing any extension into nearby vegetation.
Initial reports indicate the aircraft was having engine troubles when the pilot attempted to perform an emergency landing in the field. During the landing, the aircraft struck a large boulder causing it burst into flames.
Miraculously, neither the pilot nor the passenger of the aircraft were injured.
