Pyrite Fire Burns 200+ Acres in Jurupa Valley

On September 5, 2025, at approximately 5:27 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a vegetation fire in the area of Pyrite Street and Granite Hill Drive in Jurupa Valley. The first arriving engine located approximately five acres burning uphill, prompting the request for additional ground and air resources.
As conditions intensified, the fire quickly expanded to 15–20 acres, with helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft assisting ground crews. Evacuation warnings were issued for Zones JUR-0031 and JUR-0017 per Incident Command.
By evening, the fire had grown to an estimated 140 acres. An evacuation order was requested for Zone JUR-0018, with additional warnings issued for Zones JUR-0034 and JUR-0019.
Due to heavy fire activity, Incident Command requested 10 engines to protect structures along Sierra Avenue and ordered an immediate closure of Sierra Avenue between Armstrong Road and Jurupa Avenue.
Evacuations were reported in progress along Boulder Drive, and video from Sierra Avenue showed heavy smoke and active fire behavior approaching the roadway.
