Pursuit Suspect Dies After Being Struck By Patrol Vehicle

The pursuit originated with Precinct 7 Constable deputies who attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations, including speeding over 90 miles per hour without headlights.

The suspect vehicle exited the freeway at Garrett Road, traveling approximately 120 miles per hour, at which point Precinct 7 lost visual contact.

Precinct 3 Constable deputies relocated the suspect vehicle farther ahead and attempted another stop, during which the suspect ran a red light and continued speeding in excess of 90 miles per hour without headlights.

The suspect lost control at a curve, left the roadway, and crashed into a tree line.

The suspects exited the crashed vehicle on foot. As one deputy turned his vehicle around to pursue, a suspect fell in front of the patrol vehicle.

The deputy attempted to brake but slid due to muddy and slippery ground conditions, causing the patrol vehicle to strike the suspect.

The suspect became lodged under the patrol vehicle and was dragged approximately 10 feet before becoming dislodged.

Deputies attempted lifesaving measures, and EMS transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

It has not been determined why the suspect initially evaded.
