Pursuit Suspect Crashes Mercedes Into Traffic Signal | National City
09.21.2022 | 11:18 AM | NATIONAL CITY – The female (gray pants) owner of the Mercedes was tracking her stolen Mercedes on her phone.
The vehicle had been stolen yesterday in La Jolla.
She called the Police and gave them the location information.
SDPD’s ABLE helicopter tracked the vehicle through Mid-City and then onto Hwy 94 and the I-805.
The male suspect exited onto Plaza Blvd in National City and went west.
SDPD officers were following behind and the suspect pulled into a CVS stores parking lot.
The officers attempted a “Hot Stop” with weapons drawn and the suspect fled onto L Ave.
He went into oncoming traffic on 8th St for a short time and attempted to turn left onto Highland Ave.
The driver lost control and crashed violently into a traffic light.
A male pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the time and was almost hit.
When the car came to a stop, the suspect jumped out and ran into the backdoor of the “Furniture Store”
Officers followed and were able to arrest the suspect without further incident.
The suspect told officers that he had swallowed illegal narcotics as he was being chased.
He was transported to a local hospital.
The suspect had stolen plates from Florida on the California car and had a fake Arizona temporary plate in the trunk.
8th St was closed on the eastbound lanes for the investigation.
