Pursuit From OC Ends in Major Injury Crash | Otay Mesa
04.16.2022 | 8:30 PM | OTAY MESA – The Orange County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a vehicle somewhere in Orange county for reckless driving.
The driver fled at high speed and then it was discovered that the van was stolen.
The suspects’ led deputies down the I-5 south into San Diego County where the CHP was handed the pursuit.
SDSO Deputies and the ASTREA helicopter joined in at some point.
The pursuit made it down to the I-805 where a spike strip was used successfully, but other vehicles also hit the strip and received flattened tires.
The suspects attempted to make it onto the I-805 transition to the eastbound i-905 and went off the freeway and down the embankment.
They hit several trees and stopped in a vegetation area.
Refusing to surrender, the CHP shot pepper balls into the passenger side window.
The male passenger got out and surrendered, but the driver was hiding in the back.
An SDSO K-9 was sent in and bit the male driver.
It turns out that both of the suspects hit the windshield, resulting in major injuries.
the driver went unconscious when he was pulled out of the back of the van.
Both men were transported to local hospitals.
The eastbound transition ramp from the southbound I-805 to the eastbound i-905 is closed causing a long traffic delay.
