Pursuit Crash Kills Man Sleeping at Bus Stop and Injures 3 Others

- CHP was in pursuit of a dark red sedan near Garfield Ave and Florence Ave traveling North on Garfield in Bell Gardens.
- According to radio transmission CHP canceled the pursuit near the city of Commerce by Eastern Ave traveling North towards Randolph because the suspect drove through a red light going over 100 miles per hour. Seconds later, the CHP officer said that he thought the suspect crashed.
- According to a witness who I spoke to he said the red car rear-ended the white vehicle which was stopped at a red light. The impact sent the red suspect vehicle onto the sidewalk, hitting 4 people. 1 of the people that was hit was a homeless man who was known to sleep there and the other 3 were women waiting for the bus.
- The suspected pursuit driver was captured and according to the witness “Arturo” who operates the taco truck across the street he said that when officers put him in the back of the patrol car the suspect managed to get escape from the police car, but was captured again and this time they put handcuffs on him and officers are guarding the suspect to make sure he doesnt get away again.
- 1 male killed while sleeping on the bus stop, 3 women struck waiting for the bus, a man and woman also transported to the hospital who were in the white sedan with unknown injuries.
