Powerful Waves Rip Apart Long Beach Peninsula Boardwalk
Powerful high tide waves ripped apart sections of the Long Beach Peninsula boardwalk Thursday evening, sending wooden debris into the ocean as the already damaged coastline took another beating.
On October 8, 2026, between approximately 7 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., large waves battered the shoreline near 64th Place and Ocean Boulevard during high tide.
Video captured waves crashing into the boardwalk, tearing away sections of the wooden structure and carrying pieces into the surrounding water.
Some waves appeared to rise above nearby waterfront homes as residents gathered to watch the powerful surf strike the shoreline.
The waves also battered portions of the coastline that had already sustained damage during previous periods of high surf, raising additional concerns about erosion and the stability of the waterfront infrastructure.
Wooden boards and other debris could be seen floating in the turbulent water as the waves continued pounding the Peninsula.
The extent of the additional damage was not immediately known.
