Powerful Snow Storm Slams Sierra Mountain Highway

DETAILS:

  1. The big snow storm arrived around 9 AM, and it only took about 30 minutes for hundreds of cars to get stuck.
  2. Chain controls went into effect almost immediately, but the vehicles that were already driving through the passes did not stand a chance.
  3. On the westbound side of Interstate 80 just east of Blue Canyon, several hundred vehicles are entangled in a massive traffic jam as motorists pull over or stop to put chains on in the middle of the freeway.
  4. This includes dozens and dozens of semi-trucks.
  5. As the storm continues to gain momentum and strength, the high Sierra mountains and passes are forecasted to get up to 3 – 4 feet of snow between now and tomorrow afternoon.
