DETAILS:
- The big snow storm arrived around 9 AM, and it only took about 30 minutes for hundreds of cars to get stuck.
- Chain controls went into effect almost immediately, but the vehicles that were already driving through the passes did not stand a chance.
- On the westbound side of Interstate 80 just east of Blue Canyon, several hundred vehicles are entangled in a massive traffic jam as motorists pull over or stop to put chains on in the middle of the freeway.
- This includes dozens and dozens of semi-trucks.
- As the storm continues to gain momentum and strength, the high Sierra mountains and passes are forecasted to get up to 3 – 4 feet of snow between now and tomorrow afternoon.
