Possible Drunk Driver Kills Juvenile On Scooter
INCIDENT DATE/TIME: Sunday 5-12-24/12:40am
LOCATION: Orange Ave & 59th street
AREA/CITY: Long Beach, CA
DETAILS:
- LBPD & LBFD responded to the area of Orange Avenue & 59th street for reports of a hit and run collision involving a vehicle vs pedestrian on a scooter.
- Upon LBPD arrival, they located a pedestrian down in the roadway with major trauma. LBFD quickly transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition.
- The suspect vehicle fled the area northbound Orange Avenue from the crime scene and crashed a few blocks down into an apartment building that caused damage to 2 garage units. The suspect then stayed on scene and tried to blend in with the crowd, which then LBPD was alerted and questioned the potential female suspect in the crowd.
- The female suspect was taken into police custody by LBPD and LBPD was going to perform a breathalyzer on the female for possible impairment.
- Family members of the victim was observed crying and praying along with a scooter observed down in the roadway along with a blood puddle.
- LBPD confirmed the victim is a minor, unknown if this is a fatality at this time, LBPD is holding the investigation in both locations of Orange Avenue & 59th street (Veh. Vs minor crime scene) and Orange Avenue & 61st street (Veh into building)
