Port Hueneme: Child, Pregnant Mother Shot In Quiet Neighborhood
07.02.2019 | 10:14 PM | PORT HUENEME – A 7-year-old girl and her pregnant mother were gunned down in an incident that remains under investigation, Tuesday night.
Authorities responded to responded to reports of a walk-in gunshot victim at Ventura County Fire Station 53 located in the 300 block of North Second Street around 10:14 PM.
Officers arriving on scene learned that a father had rushed his 7-year-old daughter to the fire station after an individual opened fire on their home.
Due to the severity of the child’s injuries, a police officer transported her in his patrol vehicle to Ventura County Medical Center where she was then airlifted to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in critical condition.
Additional units responding to the scene of the shooting at the family’s residence located in the 100 block of East Pearl Street discovered numerous shell casings along with the child’s pregnant mother suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg.
Firefighter paramedics treated the mother on scene before transporting her to an area hospital in stable condition.
The scene of the shooting was cordoned off while investigators combed the area for evidence.
No suspect information was immediately available but authorities said they believed the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute.
Police also said despite the numerous shell casings and bullet holes discovered on scene no calls regarding reports of a shooting were received. Authorities attributed this to people’s belief that the gunshots were actually fireworks.
