Police Pursuit Ends With PIT Maneuver After Suspect Rams Patrol Car In San Bernardino

A police pursuit through the San Bernardino Mountains ended with a PIT maneuver and an arrest early Thursday morning after a driver allegedly rammed a patrol vehicle while fleeing officers.

On November 5, 2026, at approximately 1:20 a.m., San Bernardino police began pursuing a vehicle after observing it traveling at high speeds without its lights on and running red lights.

The pursuit continued up Old Waterman Canyon, where the driver allegedly rammed a San Bernardino Police Department patrol vehicle.

Despite the collision, the suspect continued fleeing up Old Waterman Canyon onto Highway 18, eventually reaching the mountain community of Rimforest.

The driver then turned around and headed back down Highway 18, where San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies were positioned with a spike strip.

Deputies successfully deployed the spike strip, causing the fleeing vehicle to lose both passenger-side tires.

The pursuit continued into San Bernardino, where officers performed a PIT maneuver near Highland Avenue and Valencia Avenue, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

Following a brief struggle, officers took the driver into custody.

Due to the reported ramming of a patrol vehicle, the driver could face a possible charge of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. Formal charges have not been confirmed.

No additional details were immediately available.
