Plane Crash Lands Just After Take Off
INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 1040pm 11-20-25
LOCATION: Grand Pkwy & West Rd
AREA/CITY: Katy
DETAILS:
- A Male Pilot coming out of West Houston Airport was forced to make an emergency landing
- Plane is a 1967 Mooney M20E, tail number N523MW
- The pilot, a 42 year old male out of Ft Bend County, Reported engine trouble West of Grand Pkwy
- The pilot tuned East to return to the airport, and it is believed that a cylinder failed causing the single engine to fail (unconfirmed, but provided on the phone by DPS)
- The pilot put the plane down just inside Grand Pkwy, in a field belonging to a new Housing development
- The pilot walked away without any injuries
- Plane appears to have sustained damage as the result of the hard landing/ crash
- HCSO District 4 and Cy Fair FD responded to the scene, and ultimately handed the investigation over to DPS
