Perris: Suspect Dead From Self-Inflicted Gunshot After Standoff
05.03.2020 | 1:44 PM | PERRIS – A suspect who shot at officers and barricaded himself inside a home after fleeing a hit-and-run crash died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Saturday afternoon.
Authorities responded to reports of a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Alexander and Markham streets around 1:44 PM.
A sheriff’s helicopter responded to the area of the crash and spotted a suspect fleeing from the on foot in a nearby field.
The helicopter followed the suspect to a residence in the 18000 block of Cable Lane where he appeared to force entry.
As ground units responded to the home the suspect opened fire at.
No deputies were struck but the shooting prompted a standoff that ended when a SWAT team entered the home and discovered the suspect deceased from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting remain under investigation.
The driver of the vehicle that was struck by the suspect was treated by firefighter paramedics but the nature of their injuries was unclear.
