Perris: CHP Patrol Vehicle Engulfed In Flames, Officer Injured After Hit & Run Crash

08.11.2020 | 10:25 PM | PERRIS – A California Highway Patrol officer was injured and his patrol vehicle destroyed after becoming in engulfed in flames when it was struck by a hit-and-run driver, Tuesday night.

The crash was reported on the southbound I-215 Freeway just north of Harley Knox Boulevard exit around 10:25 PM.

Details regarding the crash were limited but when firefighters arrived on scene they found a patrol vehicle engulfed in flames and an officer with major back injuries.

The fire was quickly extinguished and paramedics rushed the officer to an area hospital for treatment.

The driver that struck the officer fled the scene, according to witnesses.

The CHP’s Media Log showed that a 2016 Toyota Camry, believed to be the suspect vehicle, was impounded in relation to the incident.

It was unclear if the driver who fled in the vehicle was apprehended.

The investigation is ongoing.
