Pedestrian Struck On Houston Freeway, Officer Injured In Second Crash

A man was struck by a vehicle on Houston’s East Freeway late Saturday night, and a Houston police officer was injured in a separate collision while blocking traffic at the crash scene.
The initial collision was reported around 11:55 p.m. on September 26, 2026, in the 10100 block of the East Freeway near Mercury Drive.
According to preliminary information from Houston police, investigators initially believed the pedestrian had crossed the freeway at a location without a designated crosswalk. Officers later located a disabled white truck on the shoulder that they believe belonged to the man.
Investigators believe the truck had run out of gas, prompting the man to cross the freeway to obtain fuel. He was reportedly struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross back to his truck.
Police said the driver who struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Officers checked the driver and found no apparent signs of impairment.
Authorities shut down the freeway while investigating the pedestrian collision.
During the closure, a second driver reportedly failed to yield and struck a Houston police patrol car that was positioned to block traffic. An officer was sitting inside the patrol car at the time.
The officer sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The extent of the officer’s injuries and the pedestrian’s condition were not immediately available.
Houston police are investigating both collisions.
