Passenger Killed When Sedan Wraps Around Tree in Long Beach

Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on April 21, 2025 which resulted in the death of a male adult.
On April 21, 2025 at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers responded to the area of Shoreline Drive and Ocean Boulevard regarding a single-vehicle injury collision with multiple injured persons.
Upon arrival, officers located an overturned vehicle in the median that was resting against a tree. Three occupants were trapped inside the vehicle.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and extricated the occupants from the vehicle. Two occupants were transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while one of the occupants was determined to be deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates a 2005 Chevrolet sedan, driven by a 19-year-old resident of Van Nuys, was traveling northbound on Shoreline Drive at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and collided with a tree.
Speed and impaired driving are being investigated as possible factors in the collision.
The deceased passenger is only being identified as a 19-year-old resident of Van Nuys, pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
