Oxnard: Officers Shoot Teenage Girl Armed With Knife
05.03.2019 | 6:55 AM | OXNARD – A 17-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition after being she refused to comply and lunged towards a police officer, early Friday morning.
Officers responded to reports of a woman with a knife to the rear of a business in the 400 block of North Rose Avenue around 6:55 AM.
Units arriving on scene located the female subject in a dirt field armed with a large kitchen knife.
An officer directed the female to drop the weapon and surrender but the woman failed to comply and instead walked toward an officer while armed.
As a second officer arrived on scene, the woman ran towards him with the knife in hand.
The officer opened fire on the woman striking her multiple times and causing her to eventually collapse.
Officers rendered first aid while firefighter paramedics responded.
Firefighter paramedics continued to the treat the 17-year-old girl on scene before transporting her to an area hospital in critical but stable condition.
Initial reports indicate the female told officers she wanted them to shoot her at some point during the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting were captured on body cam and will be investigated per department policy.
