Overturned Semi-Truck Shuts Down 710 To 405 Freeway Transition

An overturned semi-truck and a fallen light pole caused major traffic disruptions early Wednesday morning on a freeway transition in Long Beach, where a passing motorist stepped in to help prevent additional crashes.

On October 28, 2026, at approximately 1:14 a.m., the California Highway Patrol received reports of an overturned semi-truck and trailer on the northbound 710 Freeway transition to the southbound 405 Freeway.

Initial reports indicated a fallen light pole was blocking lanes, causing multiple passing vehicles to strike the obstruction.

CHP officers arrived to find the overturned semi-truck blocking the entire transition roadway. The truck driver was reportedly uninjured.

One passing motorist, identified as Brian Gutierrez, suffered two flat tires after encountering the roadway hazard.

Despite the damage to his own vehicle, Gutierrez took action and removed the fallen light pole from the travel lanes, potentially preventing additional motorists from striking it.

CHP requested assistance from Caltrans to establish a full closure of the affected transition lanes, including the southbound 710 Freeway connector to the southbound 405 Freeway.

A SigAlert was issued as traffic backed up, affecting additional semi-trucks traveling from the nearby port area.

The duration of the closure was not immediately known.
