Orange County: Suspect Who Tried To Stab Deputy Taken Into Custody After Pursuit
12.12.2019 | 1:00 AM | MISSION VIEJO – A suspect who attempted to stab a deputy with a pair of scissors during a traffic stop was taken into custody after a subsequent pursuit, early Thursday morning.
An Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputy attempted to make contact with a man in a parked minivan while conducting a patrol check in the area of La Paz and the I-5 Freeway around 1:00 AM.
While making contact the suspect reportedly tried to stab a deputy with a pair of scissors before fleeing to his vehicle and leading officers on a pursuit to the opposite end of the county.
The suspect continued on the northbound I-5 Freeway before stopping in Anaheim near the intersection of Katella and State College avenues around 1:00 AM after several successful spike strips were deployed.
A police K9 was deployed to apprehend the man after he tried to flee on foot.
Firefighter paramedics transported the suspect to an area hospital for evaluation.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is expected to charge the man with multiple charges including assault on a peace officers and evading.
