One Killed In Violent Rollover Crash On 215 Freeway

One person was killed and another seriously injured after a Jeep crashed off the 215 Freeway and rolled down an embankment Friday afternoon in Perris.

At approximately 4:09 p.m. on August 1, 2026, CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol responded to northbound Interstate 215 south of Placentia Avenue following reports of a rollover crash with at least one person trapped.

Emergency crews arrived to find a Jeep with major damage and two occupants trapped in the wreckage. One occupant was extricated and transported to a local hospital with major injuries. The second occupant was trapped in the heavily damaged vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the preliminary investigation, the Jeep was traveling northbound on I-215 at a high rate of speed when, for an unknown reason, it left the freeway and traveled down an embankment.

The vehicle struck a frontage road along the embankment, became airborne and continued up the opposite hillside, nearly reaching the on-ramp/off-ramp transition roadway before rolling back down the embankment and coming to rest.

It remains unknown whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.

CHP Riverside is investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
