Press Release from Las Vegas Metro Police:
On January 1, 2025, at approximately 8:40 a.m., LVMPD Dispatch received a report of an explosion at a hotel property in the 2000 block of Fashion Show Drive. As officers arrived, they located a Tesla Cybertruck fully engulfed in flames in the valet area. Fire personnel extinguished the fire and discovered a deceased person in the vehicle who was the sole occupant. Seven people sustained minor injuries during the explosion.
Officers began to evacuate the hotel out of an abundance of caution. Multiple law enforcement agencies and assets responded to determine the origin of the explosion and fire.
A government identification card and passport for 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger were found inside the vehicle. Investigators are unable to identify the occupant in the vehicle at this time due to the degree of injury caused by the blast. DNA verification is pending to confirm that Livelsberger is the driver located in the vehicle. Although a motive is unclear at this time, investigators found two firearms, fireworks, gas canisters and other miscellaneous items as well. Livelsberger is a person of interest and investigators believe he was the driver but are awaiting confirmation from the coroner. Livelsberger was an active-duty United States Army Green Beret who was on approved leave from Germany served with the 10th Special Forces Group.
He rented the vehicle in Denver, Colorado on December 28, 2024. Detectives were able to track his movements through Tesla charging stations in the below order:

- January 1, 2025 – Flagstaff, AZ

The vehicle was last tracked in Kingman, Arizona and was observed driving to the Trump Hotel valet at approximately 7:35 a.m. The individual immediately drives off and spent nearly 45 minutes in the parking lot of a business near Flamingo Road and South Las Vegas Boulevard. At 8:39 a.m., the Cybertruck was observed pulling back into the Trump Hotel valet area once again. Seventeen seconds later, the explosion occurs, and emergency services respond.
This is an ongoing joint investigation between the LVMPD and federal partners.
