One Dead, Two Critical in Early Morning Downtown LA Crash

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 12:41 am 11-30-24
LOCATION: 559 N Broadway Street
AREA/CITY: DTLA
DETAILS:

  1. LOS ANGELES (CNS) – An 18-year-old man was killed and seven others were hospitalized — two critically — as a result of a two-car crash Saturday in downtown Los Angeles.

The crash occurred about 12:40 a.m. Saturday at Broadway and Cesar Chavez Avenue, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Kevin Terzes told City News Service.

Three patients were listed in critical condition when transported, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart.

Five other patients were also injured and hospitalized, Terzes said.

Among the trio of critically injured people was an 18-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at a hospital, Terzes said. His name was not immediately released.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound car on Cesar Chavez Avenue collided with a northbound car on Broadway, he said. The man who died was an occupant of the car on Broadway.

Two people were trapped in one of the vehicles and firefighters used hydraulic tools to free them, Stewart said. Those two were among the critically injured patients.

The investigation into the crash was ongoing, Terzes said.
