One Dead, Four Wounded At Compton Fireworks Party

A Fourth of July celebration turned deadly after gunfire erupted at an apartment complex in Compton late Friday night.

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on July 4, 2026, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to reports of a shooting near West Laurel Street and Wilmington Avenue.

According to authorities, hundreds of teenagers and young adults had gathered at the apartment complex for a fireworks party when multiple shots were fired.

Investigators confirmed that one person was killed and four others were wounded in the shooting.

Victims were found at multiple locations throughout the apartment complex as deputies secured the scene and paramedics rushed the injured to local hospitals.

Video from the scene showed several victims being transported by ambulance while deputies established a large crime scene around the property.

Authorities have not released information regarding a suspect or motive, and it is unknown what led to the gunfire.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the deadly shooting.
