One Dead After Jeep Slams Into Sedan On 5 Freeway

At approximately 3:45 a.m. on June 14, 2026, California Highway Patrol officers responded to a fatal traffic collision on the northbound 5 Freeway near Terra Bella Street in Arleta.

Investigators said a green Jeep Wrangler rear-ended a white sedan under circumstances that remain under investigation.

The driver of the white sedan suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two females were observed speaking with CHP officers during the investigation, though it was not immediately clear whether they had been occupants of either vehicle involved in the crash.

Authorities have not released information regarding the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators are also working to determine whether speed, impairment, or any other factors contributed to the collision.

The crash prompted a major freeway closure, with only the HOV lane remaining open for several hours while CHP conducted its investigation and crews worked to clear the scene.
