One Dead After Car Crashes Into Freight Train

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: May 9, 2023 8:28pm
LOCATION: 16471 North D Street
CITY: Victorville, California
DETAILS:

1. A traffic collision Tuesday night in Victorville between a car and a BNSF Freight Train resulted in one fatality.
2. The fatal ‘Car v Train’ collision occurred after a traffic accident on North D Street/Old Route 66.
3. The accident on North D Street sent one vehicle down an embankment, onto the BNSF tracks and into path of a moving freight train.
4. According to Victorville Fire radio traffic, the car that went down the embankment became wedged under the freight train.
5. One person in that car was pronounced deceased at the scene.
6. At least two other people were transported to local hospitals.
7. It appears that a family was in the other car.
8. The cause of the initial accident is under investigation by the SBSO Victorville.
9. North D Street/Old Route 66 will be closed for the investigation.
10. The BNSF tracks will also be closed for an unknown amount of time impact both freight traffic and AMTRAK service.
