Officers Shoot at Winchell’s Donut Robbery Suspect

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – An investigation continued Thursday into a no-hit shooting of a man who was taken into custody after police shot at and zapped him with a stun gun after a possible armed robbery in the Harvard Heights section of Los Angeles.

Officers responded at 3:21 a.m. Wednesday to a Winchell’s donut shop in the 1700 block of Western Avenue, near Venice Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“The comments of the call indicated the suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Christopher Hall, was armed with a gun and he possibly assaulted a female worker,” according to an LAPD statement.

Witnesses directed officers to Hall and an air unit spotted him at an adjacent apartment complex running from the scene and attempting to change his clothes, police said.

He was armed with a gun, according to the LAPD. The gun was later discovered to be a black airsoft pistol that resembled an actual firearm. It was eventually recovered and booked as evidence.

“Officers contacted Hall and ordered him to drop his weapon,” police said in a news release. “Hall refused and pointed his handgun at the officers, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.”

It was unclear how many officers opened fire and how many shots were discharged.

Hall was not struck by gunfire and he dropped the gun and climbed over a nearby fence. A pursuing officer Tased him, causing him to fall to the ground, where he was taken into custody, according to the LAPD.

It was not immediately revealed whether Hall did in fact rob the donut shop.

Fire department paramedics took Hall to a hospital for evaluation prior to his being booked into jail. He sustained minor injuries, according to the LAPD. No one else was hurt.

The investigation temporarily closed Western Avenue between Washington and Pico boulevards.
