Officer Needs Help Call Leads To Shooting In Boyle Heights

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on May 16, 2026, officers responded to an “officer needs help” call near the Estrada Courts apartments in Boyle Heights.

During the incident, at least one person sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital in unknown condition.

Authorities have not confirmed whether officers fired their weapons during the encounter.

It is also unclear at this time whether any officers were injured.

A large police response remained at the scene for several hours as investigators worked to determine exactly what occurred.
