Off-Duty Officer’s Wife & Step-Child Shot in Home Invasion Robbery | Houston

6.20.21 | 2:18 AM | HOUSTON – HPD responded to an assist the officer call.. it was reported as a shooting at Dallas & Columbus. It is believed a man forced entry into a deputy’s residence and opened fire. The deputy (off duty from Precinct 1) returned fire and is confident that he struck the suspect.
A female and child have been shot and transported to an area hospital.
We now know the adult female was the deputies wife and the child was his 4 year old step daughter.
The wife is being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and the step daughter is in surgery with a gunshot wound to her arm.
Currently it is unclear if this was a targeted attack on the deputy or what the motive was behind this.
Initially it was believed the suspect barricaded himself in a nearby apartment unit however after SWAT searched the area they determined the suspect escaped.
The suspect is a hispanic male 5’5″ wearing all black, he was armed with a shotgun and a rifle.
