Oceanside: Reckless Driver Arrested After Pursuit, Brief Standoff

07.26.2020 | 11:00 PM | OCEANSIDE – A driver who fled from officers was arrested after a brief standoff, late Sunday night.

Officers attempted to stop silver Hyundai Elantra being driven recklessly on the southbound I-5 near Avenida Palizada in San Clemente around 11:00 PM.

The male driver of the vehicle  failed to yield and led officers on a pursuit that quickly entered San Diego county.

A spike strip was successfully deployed and forced the suspect’s vehicle to come to a stop on the southbound I-5 Freeway at Oceanside Boulevard.

Still the driver refused to exit his vehicle or comply with law enforcement leading to a brief standoff that ended when a less-lethal shotgun and police K9 were deployed.

The man was taken into custody and later evaluated by for injuries sustained while he was resisting arrest.
