Oceanside: Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Suspected DUI Driver Fleeing From Hit & Run Crash

12.17.2019 | 10:18 PM | OCEANSIDE – A pedestrian was dead after being struck by a suspected DUI driver who was fleeing from another traffic collision, Tuesday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Douglas Drive and Mission Avenue around 10:18 PM.

Units arriving on scene located an older Vietnamese male down in the roadway after being struck by a truck that reportedly fled the scene.

Firefighter paramedics attempted life-saving measures but pronounced the pedestrian deceased on scene.

During their initial investigation officers discovered that a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD pickup truck had been involved in a traffic collision involving a white pickup truck.

After the initial traffic collision the Chevrolet fled eastbound on Mission Avenue before striking the pedestrian at an intersection.

The Chevrolet became disabled as a result of the second impact and the occupants fled on foot, leaving the truck at the intersection of Mission Avenue and Rancho Del Oro.

Smashed beer bottles could be seen on the ground surrounding the abandoned truck.

Authorities later located the driver and passenger of the Chevrolet at a nearby residence and detained them for questioning along. The driver was also suspected of DUI.

Occupants of the white pickup truck that was initially struck were treated on scene for minor injuries.

An individual at the nearby Pho Ha Grill & Bar was seen placing signs closing the business temporarily due to a family emergency however it was unclear if the the closure was related to the fatal hit-and-run crash.
