Occupied Vehicles Pushed By Mudslide In San Bernardino CA

DETAILS:

  1. UPDATE: SEVERAL of the vehicles that were swept away in the massive mudslide on highway 330 are now visible in daylight and appear to be stuck with way to be removed.  
  2. New video shows 3 remaining vehicles had been washed away and ended up in a massive gulch and appear to be cemented in. After speaking with Cal-Trans, it was stated that they had no idea how they were going to get the vehicles removed from the ditch.
  3. Furthermore, the mudslide is massive and stretches at least quarter mile long down highway 330 from where it originated. Cal-Trans continues to work to clean the roads and states that they are hoping for a 330 re-opening later today. 
  4. at around 7:30 pm first responders got multiple reports that several cars were trapped in a large mudslide on highway 3:30.
  5. Per CHP and Radio Traffic, several vehicles were not only trapped in the mudslide but were being pushed off the road towards a ravine.
  6. It was reported that at least 6 people were trapped in the vehicles.
  7. by the time firefighters arrived they found one of the vehicles was barely still on the edge of drop off.
  8. The other several vehicles were ultimately pushed over the side and were not even visible from the road.
  9. we attempted shine a spotlight down into the ravine but were barely able to see the reflection of some of the vehicles.
  10. Per Cal-Trans supervisor that was on scene. ” some of the vehicles were pushed WAY down into the ravine and were buried pretty deep”
  11. Miraculously when fire arrived they were able to safely rescue all occupants from their vehicles and no injuries were reported.
  12. Caltrans requested a full closure of highway 330 from live oak in running springs all the way down to highland ave.
  13. The highway remains closed as Cal-Trans PIO explained that it may take them hours or even have to wait until day to begin the clean up of the mud, debris, and recover the vehicles.
  14. Per CHP cad as of 4:55 AM highway 330 remains closed.
  15. The full scale of the mudslide was hard to see in the pitch dark of the night, but it was obvious that the mud slide size was at least the size of a football field in length.
