Norwalk: Mother Shot By Child Outside Daycare
01.23.2019 | 3:32 PM | NORWALK – A woman was critically injured after one of her children accessed an unsecured shotgun and shot her outside a daycare facility, Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities responded to the reported shooting outside a daycare in the 14600 block of Dinard Avenue around 3:32 PM.
Units arriving on scene located an adult female inside a car suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.
Firefighter paramedics treated the woman on scene before transporting her to an area hospital where she was listed in critical condition.
Initial reports indicate that the woman was in her vehicle with her three children in the backseat when one child was able to access an unsecured shotgun and open fire.
Police indicated the child that pulled the trigger was less than 4-years-old.
All children were uninjured and placed into the custody of Child Protective Services pending a complete investigation.
It was unclear why an unsecured, loaded shotgun was being kept inside the vehicle.
