Norwalk: Fiery Arcing Downed Wires Cause Power Outage

04.09.2019 | 8:45 PM | Norwalk – Heavy winds from a cold storm system blew across much of the LA Basin, Tuesday evening.

The winds caused multiple power outages and a large amount of weather related damage across much of Southern California, with Norwalk being some of the hardest impacted areas.

This caused power lines to come down along the 15600 Block of Pioneer Blvd to the front of Huerta Elementary School, knocking power out to about 2600 people.

The lines began arcing along the ground, creating a bright, fiery show of sparks and smoke as deputies closed the street down between Alondra Blvd & Hopland Street.

Due to the large volume of calls, firefighters had to watch the lines as edison crews were delayed due to other electrical emergencies.

Power was restored to the area within 2 and a half hours and traffic was eventually reopened in both directions.

No injuries were reported from the power lines coming down.
