North Hills: Ambulance Bursts Into Flames

06.19.2020 | 9:37 PM | LOS ANGELES – An ambulance was destroyed after bursting into flames while being driven on a freeway, Friday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a vehicle fire on the southbound I-405 Freeway at Roscoe Boulevard in the North Hills area around 9:37 PM.

Units arriving on scene located an ambulance engulfed in flames and began efforts to extinguish the blaze.

At one point during the firefight an oxygen bottle exploded, shearing a door off its hinges.

The ambulance crew escaped without injury but the vehicle appeared largely destroyed.

The driver of the ambulance reported that he noticed the dashboard smoking and then lost power to the vehicle before the fire broke out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
