National City: K9 Officer Attacked During Suspect Search

08.16.2018 | 11:30 AM | NATIONAL CITY – A police K9 tracking a robbery suspect was attacked by two smaller dogs, Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to reports of a robbery outside the Howard-Johnson Motel in the 500 block of National City Boulevard around 11:30 AM. Witnesses reported seeing a male robbing a female of her purse before fleeing.

Witnesses confronted the male suspect who threatened the witnesses before fleeing. Officers responded to the scene and were directed to the suspect’s location by the witness.

As police, including K9 officer Chon, were tracking the suspect two smaller dogs became aggressive towards Chon. Chon’s handler attempted to remove Chon from the area while another officer tried to scare the dogs away.

Eventually, one dog was tased and another was controlled by the owner.

The suspect, who is believed to be the pimp of the female victim, was apprehended on charges of robbery, kidnapping, terrorist threats, and human trafficking.

No serious injuries were reported.
